Attempting to take life as it comes....
Mar. 20th, 2004 09:45 am....is bloody hard sometimes.
Especially when you discover that your 300 ukp engine has just been destroyed by a piece of unfortunate parking and an early morning decision not to bother putting the last 100ml's (from your nearly empty top-up bottle) of oil in your oil tank because you'll buy a full can from the car place and fill it right up.
So, I park on a slope (at the bank on the way) - the only space I can see, the bike's cambered right up and I'm thinking, that's going to be a bastard to get off the stand there....
.....and lo, I don't need to. No because I come back out of the bank....
Start engine, no cloud of blue smoke (the smoke was still nice and blue and smelt nice and east german when I stopped). Brain kicks in: "That's not right....and it doesn't sound right": Screeeeeee-clunk.
Oh. It's stopped.
Look in oil tank. Oil no longer visible as all at back of tank. Slap self for stupidity. Go and buy hex key set and oil from car place 5 minutes down road (my next port of call). Walk back. Out with plug, oil straight down the bore, fill tank, bleed oil pump. Wait a bit. Turn engine over slowly by hand:
Screee-judder-judder-judder.
Hrm.
More oil down bore ('hopeful') and leave it for half an hour.
Screee-judder-judder-judder.
Call breakdown guy.
This morning I went out armed with spray-oil, tools, patience and uh, rain. Lots of rain.
Carb off, oil in through inlet, turn over engine....sounds a bit better. Lots more oil in through inlet. Sounds okay.... spark plug back in. Sounds fucking awful again.
Ah well, see if she starts......well, yes, starts, runs, sounds not *too* bad when running. Starts to sound okay....leave it running.....rev it a bit....sounds a bit rough. Turn off engine 'rattle-rattle-rattle-clunk'.
I think that settles it.... I get to move house and strip down my engine! Woo!
*sighs*
One poor decision and I've possibly trashed a *really* nice engine.
