Moving around a lot without going forward

So after 5 hours of work on the DAF (Vixy) she's in exactly the same state as she was before, only now the brake fluid instead of looking like this:



Looks more like brake fluid. That there is brakefluid with added flecks of crap. I suspect it's disintegrating rubber from the insides of the tubes. Not teh internet's tubes, but the brake hoses. The flexible bits. They mostly look fine from the outside, after much footling, one of them looks 'iffy'. Plan is to whip one front and one rear off and see how much my local Allparts want for a set. This really is the last-and-final thing though.

I footled with the minor - the 'safety' on the passenger door is now working again, and I think that the exhaust probably isn't fouling the suspension any more - but it's lowest point remains ridiculously low and I can't see any way of making it higher... anyway. Bed beckons.

When I had trouble with the exhaust clanking (it tends to hit the rear shock arm) I drilled out the adjacent hole in the boot and moved the mount across.. They put two holes in that plate on the boot floor angle, which was nice of them. Maybe for that very reason. Maybe not.

Thing is, I've got it to work before. I'm hoping that if I keep dinking with it I'll get it right. I'm still frustrated as to why it's so low in the middle - it's always been a bit low, but seriously, it's beyond a joke this time. I can get it higher, just by applying lots of force, but last time I did that it snapped the exhaust mount.

"footling" is a word which has made me happy - thank you. I hope it is pronounced "foooo-telling" rather than "futt-tling".

You could probably make a nourishing broth with that brake fluid. Hope you manage to sort out new flexis.

I pronounce it more sort of 'Fooo-tulling'. But it's probably just an accent thing. My mangled Received Pronounciation.

I'm going to wander over to Allparts if I feel up to it ('m on night's next week) and see what they say. 'm hoping they'll go 'oh yes, we can do them'. Apparently they match some mercedes or other!
