Some shite scraped Rebecca, either today or yesterday…

Grrr

I’m hoping that it’ll mostly polish out.

On the plus side, it turns out the 70 year old tyres on my push bike hold air. On the minus side I suspect that the bottom bearing on it might need replacing :-/

Really? I've had several 50's or older pushbikes, and I always thought the bottom brackets were indestructible. They're pretty easy to do, though. If you can get the cotter pins out.

Probably full of rust, water and not enough balls or grease. It'll want work, but should recover.

My favoured solution is just to throw in a cheap new Shimano sealed BB, the first device where "sealed for life" actually means something useful. However old bikes are a byzantine world of their own when it comes to BB threads, and even what hand the threads are.

I doubt if you could get a sealed bottom bracket for cottered cranks though, could you?
