But all you do is treat me bad....
Jun. 3rd, 2004 08:05 pmTime. I've noticed some very odd things about time recently. Very, very odd things.
And it's happened more than once.
So, here's a hypothetical situation: I'm late for work, well, placement. I head out the door. I'm panicked, I drive the entire journey as fast as it's humanly possible to do, I'll arrive 5-10 minutes late.
Here's an alternative: I'm late for work, well, placement. I head out the door, I'm resigned to the fact that I'll be late and fairly relaxed about it. I trundle to the motorway and cruise down the motorway at about 65. I pootle round the ringroad and into the car-park with 5 minutes to spare.
Now, I've tested this several times (I blame my previous partner. I always used to be on time) - and the result is always the same - I have to conclude that time is distorted by the individual experience.
Not only that, but it's controllable. If I look at my watch half way in and start to panic, I can arrive exactly on time. If I look at my watch 2/3rds of the way round the ring road, and panic, I'll arrive about on time.
This is, I think, is very odd.... But I think explains why chilled out people always seem to have time to do things. Mmm.
