Look: A gasifier run ice.

It makes me miss living in Bristol where I had friends nearby who would probably have been entertained and helpful in the process of building such a thing. Clearly UK legislation would make building one of these in a car somewhat difficult (ironically since WWII shots show vehicles with gasifiers pootling around the UK). Clearly a van would be a better basis for producing one, although you'd have to isolate it from the passenger cab.

Anyhow, work calls.

Does gasifier viability depend on the mixture of "trash" you have to work with? WW2 gasifiers were mostly running on wood AFAIK, and were supposed to be a bit species-sensitive for what worked best. Does a modern "trash" of mixed plastics and a bit of kebab work as well, or does it need a more sophisticated gasifier to get those tasty hydrocarbons? Cow or pig slurry (I've done cow!) work great, but the liquid content makes them unportable.

Maybe it's time for a new Mad Max film, where gasifier-powered vehicles hunt down Mel Gibson, just for being such a git. Wouldn't even need to set it in the future, let's just do it.

brilliant. I want one. I want one on a trailer, just like the wartime ones, painted green to match the Morris, and with a nice name like 'Simplex' written on the side in script, a la stationary engines.
